Petition to Georgia Governor Nathan Deal: Please Veto Georgia's Brown Codes

GOVERNOR DEAL: PLEASE VETO GEORGIA'S PROPOSED BROWN CODES
As citizens and residents of Georgia and the United States, as parents and children, people of all faiths and non-believers, as students, business persons, and retired people, as employed and unemployed, as your constituents and neighbors we demand that you veto Georgia's Proposed Brown Codes, at the time of this petition's composition known as HB 87.
The proposed legislation normalizes and sanctifies the racist and dehumanizing "illegal alien" slur by writing it into the law of the land. It is clearly intended as a racist assault on the human rights of immigrants and those who might look like immigrants. It is a transparently cynical ploy to divide and stigmatize Georgia communities.
You have said yourself that Georgia's prisons and jails are already too full. Creating new causes of action to clog the courts, making felonies out of things people do every day to stay alive, and requiring long prison stretches to run consecutively for these new felonies are all bad ideas. We should be creating new jobs and opportunities. That is what we expect you to do as governor. We therefore demand that you veto Georgia's proposed Brown Codes, and abandon this attempt to out-do Arizona in racist meanness.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
