The Real News Network Interviews 2012 GP Presidential Candidate Jill Stein, Part 2 of 3

This is part two of a three part interview conducted by the Real News Network's Paul Jay with Jill Stein, the Green party's 2012 presidential candidate. Stein has undertaken an exploratory campaign for the 2016 election cycle.

Why Build the Green Party: The Real News Network Interviews 2012 GP Presidential Candidate Jill Stein

Jill Stein was the Green Party's 2012 candidate for President of the United States, and its current 2016 exploratory candidate. She is an organizer, physician, and pioneering environmental-health advocate. She has helped lead initiatives promoting healthy communities, local green economies and stronger democracy - including campaign finance reform, green jobs, racially-just redistricting, and the cleanup of incinerators, coal plants, and toxic-pesticides. She now helps organize the Global Climate Convergence for People, Planet and Peace over Profit, an education and direct action campaign beginning Spring 2014 with an "Earth Day to May Day" wave of action, across the US and beyond. The Convergence provides collaboration across fronts of struggle and national borders to harness the transformative power we already possess as thousands of justice movements, rising up against the global assault on our economy, ecology, peace and democracy.

A Black Agenda Radio Commentary by BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon

President Obama's so-called "bold executive action" on immigration is not a victory for the grassroots movements in immigrant communities. It's an old bone with rotten meat, more evidence of their bottomless contempt for Democrats' so-called "base voters", especially those of color.

Black Hole

In 2005, over 81,000 inmates were held in restricted housing. Solitary confinement is the practice of keeping prisoners in individual cells for most, if not all, hours of the day. Learn about the history of this practice, as well as its cost and the affect it has on the prisoners.

During the Zell Miller administration, the Governor sought and the Georgia Assembly appropriated funds to build three five-hundred cell facilities at existing prisons designed exclusively for solitary confinement. The Georgia-38 and many others are being held in solitary confinement by the Georgia Department of Corrections. Officers of the Georgia Green Party have received correspondence from inmates in solitary who report that some held there have been in solitary confinement for as long as nineteen years.

Multiple hunger strikes have recently been staged by inmates held in solitary across the country, including by inmates held under such conditions at the Georgia Diagnostic Center in Jackson Georgia, home to Georgia's Death Row.
